The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on Sunday that hunger has become everywhere in the Gaza Strip, at a time when the number of victims due to malnutrition has risen, especially among the besieged population in the northern Strip.
The agency stated - through its account on the X platform - that the situation in the northern Gaza Strip is tragic, as ground aid is prevented despite repeated appeals.
She added that with the approaching month of Ramadan, the arrival of humanitarian aid and an immediate ceasefire in Gaza are necessary to save lives.
UNRWA also said that it cannot meet the needs of civilians without safe access and a ceasefire, noting that its teams continue to deliver food, water, hygiene supplies, etc. to the people of Gaza.
The agency stressed its pivotal role in the humanitarian response in Gaza, and UNRWA had expressed its fear that the Israeli campaign against it would lead to the cessation of its activity in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Because the Israeli occupation forces prevented aid from arriving through the border crossings it controls, hunger spread further in the Gaza and northern governorates, causing the death of at least 17 children and one girl.
Recently, there have been repeated warnings from the Gaza Strip authorities and international organizations, led by the United Nations, of the spread of famine among the besieged population, while the humanitarian crisis has not been alleviated by airdrops of aid carried out by several countries, including the United States.
Recently, Martin Griffiths, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, said that half a million people in the Strip are on the brink of famine, and lack the most basic needs of food, water, and health care.
