Israeli academics called on Benjamin Netanyahu's government to take urgent action against hunger in the Gaza Strip "before it causes mass deaths."

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that 730 academics supported a signature campaign launched to take urgent action against hunger in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The academics called on the government to "take urgent measures against hunger before the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza gets out of control, causes mass deaths and turns into an indelible stain."

Among those who supported the signing campaign were the President of Tel Aviv University, Professor Ariel Porat, and the President of the Israeli Academy of Humanities, Professor David Harel.

The academics also stressed the need to release prisoners held by the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.

This coincided with what the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that hunger is everywhere in the Gaza Strip.

She stressed - via the X platform - that "the situation in northern Gaza is tragic, as ground aid is prevented despite repeated appeals."

Hunger is everywhere in #Gaza 📍

The situation in the north is tragic, where aid via land is denied despite repeated calls.

Ramadan is approaching.

The death toll continues to rise.

Humanitarian access across the #GazaStrip & an immediate ceasefire are imperative to save lives.

As a result of the war and restrictions imposed by the Israeli occupation, the residents of Gaza, especially the Gaza and northern governorates, are on the verge of famine, in light of a severe scarcity of food, water, medicine and fuel supplies, with the displacement of about two million Palestinians from the Strip, which has been besieged by Israel for 17 years.
