The sanctions against Gabon were taken in the wake of the coup d'état of August 30.

Six months after the implementation of sanctions, Gabon is therefore reintegrated into regional bodies.

The ECCAS headquarters is also maintained in Libreville.

The ECCAS notes in its final press release “

significant progress in the return to constitutional order

” with in particular the establishment of a 24-month transition timetable.

In the process, the Gabonese Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed these decisions and expressed his warm thanks to the heads of state and government of the region.

The suspension of ECCAS was a hard blow for Gabonese diplomacy, isolating the country on the regional scene.

During the previous summit held in December,

General Oligui Nguema

failed to convince his counterparts.

Among the regional recommendations was again the holding of an inclusive political process.

This Friday, the decree convening the Inclusive National Dialogue in Gabon was published in the official journal.

The next step is reintegration into the African Union.

ECCAS will send an advocacy mission to the AU and the United Nations to explain the process of readmission of Gabon.

The press release highlights the “

support of the people for the transition process, its inclusiveness and its peaceful nature

 ”.
