In this report, published
"in a context marked by political, economic and social instability
", the NGOs recommend in particular to the government to avoid dragging civilians before military courts and to speed up legal procedures with a view to decongest prisons.
On a socio-political level, public freedoms are being undermined through a certain number of attacks on freedoms of expression, meetings and demonstrations.
Philippe Nanga, coordinator of the NGO A World to Come, draws up a list of these:
“Citing the case of the North-West, we have again documented, for the year 2023, a little more than 400 people killed, among including nearly 200 belonging to the security defense forces.
»
“
1,000
cases of arrests
”
“
We have recorded
,” he said again, “
a little over 1,000 cases of arrests throughout the national territory.
You see, arrests are a subject that is becoming very worrying.
We have recorded, during the year 2023, cases of murders in police and gendarmerie units, following torture.
We have still recorded hundreds of cases of kidnappings, detentions and torture of people.
»
“
In summary terms, I would say that civil and political rights remain seriously violated.
Economic, social and cultural rights also remain very worrying in our country, with the forced evictions of people who find themselves on the streets because they leave for various reasons, but without any alternative for the security of these people
. finally notes Philippe Nanga.
