[ASEAN Special Line] Cambodian agricultural products have broad development space in the Chinese market

China News Service, Phnom Penh, March 10 (Yang Qiang Le Haiyue) The Cambodian Rice Alliance issued a press release on the 9th local time stating that in the first two months of 2024, Cambodia has sent a total of 50 rice products to China, 5 ASEAN countries and 22 EU countries. More than 90,000 tons of rice were exported to the destination.

Among them, more than 11,000 tons of rice were exported to China. China is still one of Cambodia’s main export markets for rice.

In recent years, in order to implement the relevant consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries to further accelerate the export of Cambodian agricultural products to China, China has continuously accelerated the work process.

In 2023, Cambodian pepper, edible aquatic animals, and wild aquatic products will be exported to China. China and Cambodia signed a protocol on exporting Cambodian coconuts to China to accelerate the export of high-quality agricultural products such as bird's nests to China.

Earlier this year, the General Administration of Customs of China updated the list of registered orchards and packaging plants for Cambodian fruit exported to China, showing that Cambodian coconuts have completed all procedures for export to China and can be exported to China.

So far, Cambodia has four major fruits that can be exported to China: banana, mango, longan, and coconut.

Coconut is the first high-quality Cambodian agricultural product approved to be exported to China in 2024, and is another new achievement of China-Cambodia pragmatic cooperation.

Thanks to the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the China-Cambodia Free Trade Agreement, China has become one of the important export markets for Cambodia’s high-quality agricultural products.

Cambodian agricultural products have broad development space in the Chinese market.

According to the latest official report, in the first two months of 2024, Cambodia exported nearly 3 million tons of agricultural products to 60 countries, a year-on-year increase of 65%, and the total export volume exceeded US$947 million.

Li Xuanman, deputy general manager of China Inspection and Certification Group Cambodia Co., Ltd., believes that with the rapid development of China's economy, people are pursuing high-quality life and have strong demand for various imported goods.

More and more high-quality Cambodian agricultural products are allowed to be exported to China, which not only brings good taste to Chinese consumers, but also helps promote rural and agricultural development in Cambodia and benefits local farmers.
