An American destroyer intercepts Houthi missiles in the Red Sea (French)

The US military said on Friday evening that it carried out a new strike “in self-defense” against two anti-ship missiles mounted on two trucks in areas controlled by the Houthis in Yemen.

This comes as the Houthi group continues to carry out operations in the Red Sea against Israeli, American and British ships, in solidarity with the Gaza Strip.

The US Central Command statement said that at approximately 3:55 pm Sana'a time, the Houthis fired two anti-ship ballistic missiles from Yemen into the Gulf of Aden at the ship "M/V Propel Fortune", which flies the Singapore flag and is owned and operated by a company from Singapore.

Earlier, two explosions occurred near a ship sailing 50 nautical miles southeast of the city of Aden, according to the British Maritime Trade Operations Authority.

The British authority said in a post on the X platform, “The ship’s captain reported the two explosions, but said that the ship and crew were safe.”

The authority called on ships sailing in the region to "exercise caution and report any suspicious activities."

British maritime security company Ambrey also reported its knowledge of an accident approximately 52 nautical miles south of Aden.

Targeting circle

In support of the Palestinian resistance in its response to the war on Gaza, the Ansar Allah Houthi group in Yemen targets ships owned or operated by Israeli companies, or transporting goods to and from Israel.

The Houthis expanded their attacks to include American and British ships after these two countries began raids on Yemen last January.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for targeting more than 20 ships in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden over the past months.
