The mayor of
Puigverd
(Lérida),
Josep Solsona Batlle
, has been arrested by the Mossos for a crime of
sexist violence in the family,
as sources from the Catalan police have confirmed to EFE.

), according to the same sources, was arrested at noon on Friday, Women's Day, and, after spending the night at the police station, he
is scheduled to appear in court this Saturday
.
The mayor, according to the newspaper
Segre de Lleida
, is accused of sexist violence in a case in which, at the moment, further circumstances are unknown, which the Mossos are now investigating.
Solsona assumed the mayorship of Puigverd in August 2022 after a motion of censure promoted by his party and the PSC against the mayor of ERC
Sandra Barberà
was successful and he revalidated the position after the last municipal elections.
Last January, the mayor caused controversy for some statements in which he maintained that
"a women's association is sexist",
made during a training event at the Government delegation on equal treatment and non-discrimination.
"In an egalitarian society there should be no female or male associations," said the mayor.
