Tensions between Sudan and Chad before the UN Security Council

Before the Security Council, during the session devoted to the situation in Sudan, tensions were felt between Sudan and Chad.

Some delegations expressed concern about the closure of the border between the two countries, which prevents the entry of humanitarian aid into Darfur.

Al Hareth Idriss, Sudan's representative before the body, called on the UN to vary the aid entry points so as not to limit passage only with Chad.

Al Hareth Idriss also affirmed, before the UN, that this crossing point allowed the entry of weapons, ammunition and mercenaries for the Rapid Support Forces: “

The Chadian border has remained, since the start of the war , scene of arms and human trafficking activities, mercenaries and all forms of trafficking and cross-border crimes.

This is what prompted the two countries, Sudan and Chad, to form joint forces to secure it.

“

After the outbreak of war, this border became the first supply line for the Rapid Support Forces militia, with weapons, mercenaries and various supplies so that it could continue its war and its abuses

,” he said. he said again.

“

Sudan is facing a war supported by several countries.

The fighters and mercenaries came from several countries including some neighboring countries, which constitutes an unusual pressure on Sudanese national security.

This is why we have kept the western border crossing between Chad and Darfur closed.

This passage is currently reopened

,” accuses the Sudanese representative to the UN.

Sudan has also accused the United Arab Emirates of supporting the Rapid Support Forces, leading to tensions and exchanges of expulsions of diplomats between the three countries.

“

They are looking for scapegoats

Mahamat Saleh Annadif, Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, reacted vigorously to the recurring accusations of the Sudanese government, led by General Burhan, on arms deliveries to General Hemetti's camp, from Chad.

Contacted by RFI, Mahamat Saleh Annadif denounces accusations “

without any basis

” from a government which has “

no legitimacy

 ”

.

“

For some time, our neighbors in Sudan have accustomed us to always looking for scapegoats.

Besides, what you call the Sudanese government, for us, is rather the government of Port Sudan which has no legitimacy.

We are surprised by their allegations.

I had to say it both at the African Union and at the United Nations level, that these are childish accusations, that these are unfounded accusations, and that we have proven that we welcomed our brothers Sudanese and that they have no control over our borders.

In any case, any humanitarian aid can pass through our territory, we have given our agreement.

“

These are people who are used to doublespeak.

I believe that they want to transpose their war to the level of Chad, that they want to transpose it to the level of Darfur.

They couldn't and now they are looking for scapegoats, that's all

,” said Mahamat Saleh Annadif, Chadian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
