) need to make a plan and rethink their military capabilities in the light of Donald Trump’s threats,” the Telegraph publication says.

One European diplomat told the publication that the former US president's comments about the country's membership in the alliance are cause for concern.

Another noted that Trump’s words once again emphasized Europe’s excessive dependence on Washington.

According to him, European NATO member countries need to discuss how to protect themselves in case the United States leaves the alliance.

Earlier, Trump said at a rally of supporters in Nevada that he did not believe in NATO’s desire to protect the United States.

In February, The New York Times reported that negotiations were held within the North Atlantic Alliance about the prospects for NATO in the event of a possible US withdrawal from it under the presidency of Donald Trump.
