The coast of Gaza was not spared the destruction caused by the continuing Israeli aggression on all areas of the Strip (Anatolia)

Doctors Without Borders believed that the United States’ intention to establish a temporary seaport in the Gaza Strip for humanitarian purposes is “an attempt to obscure the real problem, which is the Israeli blockade imposed on the Strip.”

In a statement on the organization's website, the Executive Director of Doctors Without Borders in the United States, Avril Benoit, called on the administration of US President Joe Biden to "pressure Israel to open border crossings ready for the entry of aid."

Benoit warned that "the real problem is the siege imposed by Israel on Gaza and the use of disproportionate force."

She pointed out that the food, water, and medical supplies that Palestinians need are on the border, demanding that Israel allow them to reach the Gaza Strip.

She explained that the problem “is not logistical, but political, and the United States must insist on immediate access to humanitarian aid through the existing crossings and corridors, instead of circumventing the problem. The only guaranteed way to increase the arrival of urgent aid, according to Benoit, is to declare a ceasefire in Gaza.” .

It also alerted that the United States used its veto power against the draft ceasefire resolution in Gaza three times in the United Nations Security Council.

Fears and warnings

Yesterday, Friday, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Michael Fakhri, denounced the American proposal, and said during a press conference in Geneva that it was “the first time I have heard anyone say that we need to use a sea pier. No one has asked for a sea pier, neither the Palestinian people nor the humanitarian community.” .

Fakhri described the American proposal as “malicious” and came in response to electoral interests, noting that the United States is at the same time providing bombs, ammunition, and financial support to Israel.

For his part, expert in military and strategic affairs, Hisham Khreisat, told Al Jazeera that despite the “humanitarian aspect” of what Biden announced, there is another aspect to the floating port related to encouraging voluntary Palestinian migration to Europe, and canceling any role for the Rafah land crossing on the border with Egypt.

US President Joe Biden announced during his State of the Union address last Thursday that he had issued instructions to the US army to establish a temporary port on the Gaza coast.

It is noteworthy that Israel has been waging a brutal war on the Gaza Strip since last October 7, which left tens of thousands of civilians martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, a humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure, which led to Tel Aviv being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide.

As a result of the war and Israeli restrictions, the residents of Gaza are on the verge of famine, in light of a severe scarcity of food, water, medicine and fuel supplies, with the displacement of about two million Palestinians from the Strip, which has been besieged by Israel for 17 years.
