Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral found the framework of its nave, destroyed along with its spire in a fire in 2019. The framework of the choir, also collapsed, had already been rebuilt in January.

The spire, rebuilt identically to that of the 19th century architect Viollet-Le-Duc, is also nearing completion.

Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral has found the framework of its nave, destroyed along with its spire in a fire in 2019, announced the establishment responsible for the reconstruction via a photo of the carpenters and knackers at the top of the work, completed on Friday .

This photo, liked by thousands of Internet users, is making the rounds on social networks after being published by the public establishment on its Facebook and Instagram “Rebuilding Notre-Dame de Paris” accounts.

We see the teams of craftsmen wearing construction helmets through the solid oak wood of the nave frame and on scaffolding as well as a bouquet at the end of the work as tradition dictates.

The choir frame, also collapsed in the fire, had already been rebuilt in January.

The forest of scaffolding being dismantled

The spire, rebuilt identically to that of the 19th century architect Viollet-Le-Duc, is also nearing completion with the installation of its lead cover and the gradual dismantling of the forest of scaffolding surrounding it.

It should be perceptible in the sky of Paris without any further hindrance for the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11) in the French capital while the cathedral is due to reopen on December 8.

The Minister of Culture Rachida Dati also installed an artistic committee on Friday responsible for appointing the artist and the master glassmaker who will design six contemporary stained glass windows for certain chapels of the cathedral.

These stained glass windows, desired by President Macron, who made the announcement at the end of December, will be contemporary and installed in six chapels, but not before 2026.

Ravaged by a gigantic fire in April 2019, Notre-Dame de Paris must reopen after a titanic five-year reconstruction project.

Its surroundings must subsequently be redeveloped, sector by sector, from 2025 to 2028, according to Paris town hall.
