France: the Île-de-France region opens its “Shelter” for Olympic visitors who are victims of sexual violence

The Île-de-France region has announced the inauguration of a safe place for victims of sexual assault and harassment, in a system intended for tourists and visitors to the Paris region during the 2024 Summer Olympics. Called “l'Abri”, this space located at the headquarters of the regional council in Saint-Ouen in Seine-Saint-Denis has just been inaugurated by the president of the Ile-de-France region Valérie Pécresse and will be accessible every day of the week, 24 hours a day.

Quite simply “L’Abri”: it is a rather unusual place, at the headquarters of the Regional Council in Saint-Ouen, in the northern suburbs of

Paris

, which offers a safe place for women victims of violence.

 “

We unfortunately know that during the Olympic Games, with the supporters, the alcohol, we can find ourselves with subjects of sexual and gender-based violence

,” explains the president of the Ile-de-France region

Valérie Pécresse

.

It is also to prevent harassers, finally once we enter the regional council, we are taken care of.

We are a safe haven by nature.

 »

For greater visibility, “L’Abri” will also be listed on “The Sorority” application already used by 90,000 women.

This application allows women who are or feel threatened to inform other women geographically close, with the aim of being rescued or helped, in particular.

Develop more safe places

“

On the application, we arrive at the home screen and we see that in the 30 kilometers around us, there are more than 12,800 people there, so we know that we are not alone

, explains its creator Priscillia Routier Trillard

.

If we are in an immediate danger situation, we press the main button for two seconds, the alert button, it calculates in real time our GPS position and the position of the

first 50

people around us, who immediately have our photo, name, first name, geolocation, telephone number, and who can contact us immediately

.

»

With “L’Abri”, the objective is to develop more safe places, particularly in fan zones during the Olympic Games.

Against violence against women, we opened in the region @iledefrance L'Abri, a shelter accessible 24/24-7 days a week for victims of #assault or #sexualharassment with free permanence, and geolocated by our new partner @jointhesorority#8mars pic.twitter.com/NxDeT6mPEb
