Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed on Saturday his “firm” support for the leaders of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which has been waging a war against the Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip for more than 5 months.

The Turkish President said during a speech in Istanbul: “No one can push us to classify Hamas as a terrorist organization. Turkey is the country that speaks openly with Hamas leaders, and stands firmly behind them.”

On the other hand, he said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government added their names to Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, as the Nazis of our time through the crimes against humanity they committed in Gaza.

He stressed that Turkey is the most supportive of the Palestinian cause as a state and people, at the highest levels, stressing that his country will continue to do what is necessary to hold Israeli officials accountable for the massacres committed in Gaza in accordance with international law.

He expressed his regret that the Islamic world, with a population of about two billion people, was unable to carry out its duty of brotherhood towards the Palestinian people to the fullest extent.

Erdogan added that more than 32,000 Palestinians have been martyred so far, and more than 72,000 have been injured as a result of Israeli attacks that directly target civilians in the Gaza Strip.

Regarding extending a helping hand to the Palestinian people in Gaza, Erdogan said that he had invested in his country’s relations that had recently developed with the Egyptian authorities to deliver aid to Gaza.

He explained that Turkey has so far sent a thousand tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza via 19 aircraft and 7 civilian ships.

Stop the war

For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that a permanent ceasefire must be reached in the Gaza Strip and the door opened for a two-state solution. He stressed that working to end the massacre and the great tragedy that the brothers in Gaza are experiencing is a responsibility that cannot be abandoned.

Fidan explained that he held meetings with his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and members of Congress in Washington, and they discussed ways to stop the bloodshed at the hands of Israel in Gaza.

He pointed out that he stressed the need for the international community to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza as soon as possible, as the humanitarian tragedy worsens and the conditions deteriorate to an unbearable degree, especially in recent months.

Fidan stressed that a permanent political solution to the Palestinian issue is only possible by establishing an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the two-state solution, noting that there has not been such a large consensus in the world on an issue as is happening now regarding Gaza.

He explained that there is a consensus on the necessity of a ceasefire, whether temporary or permanent, the entry of humanitarian aid, and stopping the killing of civilians as soon as possible.

He pointed out that the US administration's intention to establish a temporary port in Gaza was the result of reactions at the level of international public opinion, and stated that many countries felt compelled to do something.

He pointed out that the situation in Gaza not only constitutes a heavy burden on the conscience, but also a spark that would push societies in different countries to take action.

Fidan added that it has been known for a long time that the international system, especially the Western-centric system, is blind, deaf and dumb when it comes to Israel.
