Speaking about the results of the congress of the European People's Party held on March 7 in Bucharest, during which a vote took place to approve von der Leyen as the main party candidate for the post of head of the EC for 2025-2029, Breton noted that she was approved by a minority of votes of her own party .

“The real question is: is it possible to once again entrust the governance of the European Union to the European People's Party for the next five years?

The European People's Party itself does not seem to believe in its candidate,” he wrote on the social network X.

It is noteworthy that only 499 of 801 delegates participated in the vote on von der Leyen’s candidacy, and 400 delegates supported her.

Another 89 were against, ten abstained.

Earlier it became known that von der Leyen was nominated as a candidate for the post of head of the European Commission for a second term.
