Sexual violence occurs within the home.

In the privacy of homes, but also outside, whether in the street, at school or in the metro.

The Ministry of the Interior has just made public a detailed study on sexual violence outside the family.

Last year, 84,000 victims of this type were recorded by the police.

The Ministry of the Interior has published a detailed study on sexual violence committed outside the family.

With 84,000 victims in 2023, nearly 230 sexual offenses are committed every day, whether at work, on transport or at school.

This is an increase of 6% compared to 2022.

The victims are mainly women

An increase which slowed down last year since between 2016 and 2021, this type of incident exploded, with +11% over this period.

Note that it is women who are mainly targeted, since they represent 85% of victims.

Conversely, 96% of those accused are men.

The majority of victims suffer physical sexual violence, whether rape or assault.

Then comes sexual exploitation such as pimping, corruption of minors or child pornography.

All French departments are affected, but the most impacted are the Paris region and Hautes-Alpes.

However, these figures only reflect part of the reality since Place Beauvau statisticians estimate that only 2% of sexual victims outside the family file a complaint with the police.
