Satisfaction of the international community following the evolution of the political situation in Senegal

The decision to hold the first round of the presidential election on March 24 was welcomed by the European Union and the African Union.

The Europeans and the AU had planned to deploy an electoral observation mission and the project was relaunched.

For its part, the European Union does not hide its relief following the setting of a new date for the presidential election in Senegal after having called for weeks for a “ transparent, inclusive”

election to be held as soon as possible.

Democracy and the Senegalese rule of law, through the institutions that guarantee it, have demonstrated great resilience and responded to the aspirations of the Senegalese people for a rapid and transparent election

The European Union had planned an election observation mission for the original date of February 25 and it will be redeployed.

There is still some uncertainty as to its exact composition, but we know that a large part of the 32 observers deployed as precursors five weeks ago were kept in Senegal in order to observe the situation.

They will serve as the backbone of the new observation mission which will have to be hard at work

for the first round on March 24
