Chancellor Olaf Scholz has defended US President Joe Biden against voices that criticize his old age with regard to his office.

“I don’t like what is being discussed publicly about Joe Biden,” said Scholz, according to the Reuters news agency, on the NDR program “3nach9,” which will be broadcast in the evening.

Scholz (SPD) experienced the US President directly in many conversations.

»You shouldn't immediately assume that because someone walks a little slower that they are therefore not capable of holding such a great office and leading this country.

Joe Biden can do that,” emphasized the Chancellor.

Scholz: Good basis of trust in Biden

"This is certainly someone who knows more about international politics, for example, than almost everyone who is politically active in the USA," added Scholz.

Biden not only has a long life experience, but also a “fairly sound judgment of his own.”

He has a good basis of trust with Biden.

Ahead of the US presidential election in November, there is an intense debate in the US as to whether the 81-year-old Biden and his 77-year-old challenger Donald Trump are fit enough for the superpower's highest office.
