Great Britain wants to work with the USA to provide aid to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip by sea.

"The people of Gaza are in desperate humanitarian need," wrote British Foreign Secretary David Cameron on

In his State of the Union address on Thursday, US President Joe Biden announced that the US military would build a temporary port on the Mediterranean coast of the Gaza Strip to bring humanitarian aid to the war zone by sea.

There are no plans to deploy US soldiers to the largely destroyed Palestinian territory.

Biden also emphasized that he was in favor of a six-week ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.

Cameron added in his post: "We continue to call on Israel to allow more trucks into Gaza as this is the fastest way to get aid to those in need."

At the beginning of the week, a convoy of trucks carrying food for people in the north of the sealed-off coastal strip was turned away by Israeli soldiers and then looted by a desperate crowd, according to the United Nations World Food Program.
