French President Emmanuel Macron has denounced "false information" and "fabricated scenarios" regarding rumors about his wife Brigitte.

“The worst thing is that people end up believing it and thus angering you right into your private life,” said Macron in Paris.

He was alluding to posts on online networks that had spread since his election in 2017 and which claimed that Brigitte Macron was a trans woman and was born Jean-Michel Trogneux.

Trogneux is Brigitte Macron's birth name.

A few months before Macron's re-election in 2022, the rumor was spread again.

Macron called for a strengthening of “digital public order”.

Online networks are a “perfect place for the craziest ideas to spread,” he said.

There are still no sufficient rules for this.

Macron had previously sealed the inclusion of “freedom to abortion” in the French constitution in a ceremony on International Women’s Day together with Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti.
