In the United States on Thursday (local time), a federal judge rejected Donald Trump's request to postpone the enforcement of an $83.3 million judgment.

The sum was awarded to author E. Jean Carroll in two defamation cases against Trump.

Trump had 30 days to post bail or cash while he appeals.

His lawyers have now requested a postponement of payment - but far too late, according to US District Judge Lewis Kaplan.

Trump shouldn't have waited until 25 days after the verdict.

"Mr. Trump's current situation is the result of his own delaying tactics," said the judge.

"He's had time since January 26th to get his finances in order."

Trump now has to pay the full amount to Carroll by Monday – or at least provide a deposit or assets as security.

A New York jury found it proven that Trump sexually assaulted Carroll in a New York luxury department store in 1996 and later slandered him.

The jury then awarded the writer five million dollars (around 4.65 million euros) in compensation.

In a second trial, Carroll was awarded significantly more money - and Trump was sentenced to a further $65 million in so-called punitive damages.
