The number of dengue cases in Argentina has increased by more than 2,500% compared to 2023, which had already marked the worst outbreak of the disease in the country in 30 years.

In

Argentina

, the majority of the 57,000 cases recorded since the start of the year are concentrated in the northern regions of the country, where, unlike other years, the circulation of the

disease

has not been interrupted since 2023.

This endemic behavior worries specialists who highlight the role of climate change in the proliferation of the

Aedes aegypti

mosquito , the main vector of dengue fever, but also of the Zika virus and yellow fever.

A slow-moving prevention campaign

While dengue has already caused the death of 38 people this year, a vaccine developed in Argentina has been approved by ANMAT, the national health authority, but has not yet been integrated into the national vaccination strategy.

If the provinces in the north of the country have started to administer doses free of charge, the prevention campaign at the national level seems to be slowing down and more and more voices are being raised to denounce the passivity of the government, which has recently called into question the effectiveness of the vaccine.
