International
Women's Day
.
A day in which the rights achieved by women in all areas and the struggles that have been needed to achieve them are commemorated.
Of course, it is also a day of demand for everything that remains to be achieved: work and salary equality, an equal presence in political and business positions, the absolute rejection of gender violence...
Throughout that day,
women ask for "equality, justice, peace and development,"
as the United Nations (UN) explains.
It was this organization that began to commemorate this date in 1975, but not everything started there.
The
writer Christine de Pizan
, in the 14th century, who defended that women should receive the same education as men, started a movement that evolved over time to become the feminist movement.
Other key figures in this fight for equality are
Olimpia de Gouges, Pauline Léon, Mary Wollstonecraft, Harriet Tubman, Simone de Beauvoir, Marie Curie or Frances Montefiore
, among many others.
There are those who point out the date of
March 8, 1857
as the birth of the 8M.
That day hundreds of factory workers took to the streets to demand
improvements in working conditions
to bring them into line with those of men.
At BAZAR, we want to celebrate such an important date with
a selection of ten books that clarify concepts about feminism
, talk about important women in History (not always with the visibility they deserved) and that educate in values such as equality.
TEN BOOKS TO CELEBRATE FEMINISM
