On March 8, the world celebrates International Women's Day, amid extremely difficult circumstances for women in the Gaza Strip, which is exposed to an unprecedented Israeli war that has entered its sixth month.

UN Women says that more than 9,000 women and girls have been martyred so far since the start of the war on Gaza, while the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics announced that 75% of the total number of wounded were female, and that women and children constituted 70% of the missing in Gaza.

Palestinian women in Gaza are harshly experiencing the bitterness of war, risking their lives in order to feed their children, while others lost their lives from the pain of childbirth in the absence of the minimum medical conditions, according to a report broadcast by Al Jazeera by journalist Shaima Boualem.

In terms of numbers, during this war on Gaza, 63 women, including 37 mothers, were martyred every day, and 2 mothers were martyred every hour, according to UN figures.

Since last October 7, 1.9 million people have been displaced, including about a million women and girls, and there are at least 3,000 women who have become widows and are trying to support their families, in light of the lack of sufficient safe places for survivors.

Women's difficulties are exacerbated in light of the food shortage and the loss of their husbands and breadwinners. Despite this, they continue their journey to search for food, support their families, and protect their children.

The suffering of women in Gaza does not stop here;

Pregnant and breastfeeding women are exposed to health risks and malnutrition, while older women cannot reach food distribution sites due to their condition.

According to the United Nations Population Fund, more than 5,500 women are expected to give birth this month, including 840 women who are likely to be exposed to health complications, in light of the disruption of services in hospitals, the running out of fuel, and the power outages.
