Twelve municipalities in the province of

Girona

will be the first to access level 2 of the

drought

emergency phase decreed by the Generalitat a little over a month ago.

Towns in the

Alt Empordà

region such as

Figueres

(48,000 inhabitants) or

Roses

(20,000), which depend on the

Darnius Boadella reservoir

(currently at 11% of its capacity) for their supply, will have the most severe restrictions in the region, such as Limit on daily water consumption of

180 liters per person

.

This was announced this morning by the Government spokesperson,

, after the meeting of the interdepartmental drought commission, headed by the Catalan president,

The other ten municipalities that access the second phase of the emergency of the

Generalitat

's

Special Drought Plan

are Cabanes, Cadaqués, Castelló d'Empúries, Fortià, Llers, Riumors, Santa Llogaia d'Àlguema, Vilamalla, Vila-sacra and the Far d'Empordà.

The Catalan Executive has also authorized the use of

mobile private desalination plants

by economic sectors such as tourism (for example, hoteliers in

Lloret de Mar

) and has agreed to relax restrictions on the use of water in the primary sector to guarantee the survival of livestock and that no farmer has to abandon his activity due to drought.
