The text will be voted on next week in the Congress of Deputies, while the furious right is already announcing appeals.

The Justice Committee of the

Spanish Parliament

approved

at the last minute

the amnesty law which will soon be submitted to a vote by deputies.

A consensus was finally found after

months of negotiations

between the left-wing parties and the Catalan separatists to protect from justice all the separatists who participated in the illegal referendum of October 1, 2017.

For this, the text had to be modified.

It has been adapted to European standards and not to the Spanish Penal Code.

The crimes committed by former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont during the referendum are therefore no longer considered terrorism.

Towards a return of Carles Puigdemont to Spain?

The current leader of the Together for Catalonia party, a refugee in Belgium since 2017, will therefore be able to benefit from this amnesty and consider returning to Spain soon.

This law will make it possible to guarantee the stability of the legislature of the socialist Pedro Sanchez, and to find a certain harmony between Madrid and Barcelona, according to the socialist executive.

The right plans to resort to the constitutional court considering that this amnesty law violates the Constitution and also plans to resort to European authorities.
