Barr takes responsibility for the failure of last October 7 (French)

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed that the head of the Israeli Internal Security Agency (Shin Bet), Ronen Bar, had directed, for the first time since the Battle of Al-Aqsa Flood and the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, to open an internal investigation into the events of last October 7.

The Shin Bet investigation comes after an investigation by the Israeli army and an investigation by the State Comptroller regarding the Al-Aqsa flood battle.

The newspaper quoted an unnamed official in the agency that the investigation may continue for several weeks because it is taking place during the war on the Gaza Strip.

According to the newspaper, the Shin Bet will investigate what happened on the night of October 6 and 7, 2023.

Take responsibility

It is noteworthy that the head of the Shin Bet, Ronen Bar, announced that he took responsibility for what happened that day, and that the Shin Bet failed “to issue the necessary warning.”

After the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, Israeli officials acknowledged responsibility for what happened, describing it as a failure and a security failure, with the exception of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In the same context, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid said that Netanyahu is responsible and guilty for the largest disaster that occurred in Israel's history on October 7, and he cannot continue in his position.

Various investigations

Many Israeli security and political officials said during the past months that what happened that day amounted to an Israeli security, military, intelligence and political failure, which prompted the Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation army, Herzi Halevy, to launch internal investigations last month into all units into the events of October 7, 2023. .

Army Radio said that the investigations are expected to continue for three months, and will affect all army units.

Halevy had formed a security team from outside the army last January to begin conducting an investigation into the failures of the events of last October 7 in their security, military and intelligence aspects.

But he suspended the team's work after the sharp criticism directed at it by Netanyahu and members of his government.

Last December, Israel's State Comptroller, Matanyahu Engelman, pledged to investigate responsibility for these events at the political, military and civilian levels.

Israeli media quoted Engelman at the time as saying that his office would carefully examine the errors that occurred in the period preceding the attack, which was carried out by Hamas on October 7, and during and after the attack.

Engelman confirmed that among the issues that his office will investigate are “the behavior of the government’s mini-ministerial council, the behavior of policymakers and the army on October 7, intelligence preparedness before that date, and the defensive situation on the Gaza border before the Hamas attack.”
