In Mali, Choguel Maïga, current transitional Prime Minister, was dismissed on Wednesday evening from his post as president of the M5-RFP (June 5 Movement - Rally of Patriotic Forces) by a section of the movement.

The M5, which led the protest in 2020 against the late President IBK, has since been deserted by a huge part of its members.

The movement is today divided in two, and it is only one of these fringes which has officially dissociated itself from the current Prime Minister.

Since his arrival at the Prime Minister's office in June 2021, rumors about an “imminent dismissal” of

Choguel Maïga

have been recurring.

And never proven.

But for Malian political scientist Oumar Berté, the current crisis weakens him more than the others.

“

Each time he had difficulties, he relied on the M5-RFP,”

explains the researcher associated with the University of Rouen.

But there, it is a good part of the M5 which dissociates itself from it and, as a result, it no longer has a basis on which to rely to establish a little legitimacy in the eyes of the military, so that they can keep him in his position

However, Choguel Maïga seems to perfectly fulfill the role assigned to him: willingly excessive, his speeches always go in the direction of the colonels in power, without ever claiming to aspire to more weight.

An asset which, in the eyes of Oumar Berté, could today turn against him.

We have the impression that Choguel Maïga is not aware of anything,”

says the political scientist.

Himself, to many questions asked to him during a television program (

, he replied that he was not aware and that it was the president of the Transition that managed.
