A bill to introduce a ``Japanese DBS'' system to confirm that people working with children have no history of sexual crimes was approved in principle at a Liberal Democratic Party meeting.

Regarding the period for businesses to inquire about criminal records, in the case of a prison sentence or higher, the period will be set at 20 years after the completion of the sentence.

The bill, announced by a government official at a Liberal Democratic Party meeting on the 7th, will allow employers to inquire about their sexual offense records for 20 years after the end of the sentence if the sentence is imprisonment or higher, and 10 years after the sentence ends if the sentence is a fine or less. etc.

The criminal records that are subject to inquiries are not limited to criminal offenses, but also violations of ordinances such as voyeurism, and the targets are not only newly hired people but also people who are already working.

In addition, in operating the system, if a criminal record is confirmed in a worker, the employer will require the employee to be reassigned to a department that does not work with children, and in some cases, they will be allowed to dismiss the employee. It's a thought.

Regarding this bill, some within the Liberal Democratic Party have pointed out that the period for inquiring criminal records should be longer. It was generally approved at the meeting.

The government intends to submit the bill to the Diet as soon as the ruling party's procedures are completed.
