Speaking at the European People's Party congress in Bucharest, where she is due to be confirmed as the EPP's candidate for the post of head of the new EC, von der Leyen said that Europe must be able to defend itself.
“The European Union must ensure the production of a new generation of weapons capable of winning victories on the battlefield, and the European People’s Party is the party that can lead forward a Europe capable of defending itself,” TASS quotes her as saying.
Also during her speech, the head of the EC emphasized that Ukraine remains the most important security topic for the EU.
