China News Service, Washington, March 6. U.S. Republican presidential candidate and former U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations Nikki Haley announced on the 6th that she will withdraw from the Republican primary election for the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

"It is time to suspend my campaign." As the former governor of South Carolina, Haley announced the decision that day in Charleston, South Carolina, and said he would not stop speaking out for things he believes in.

In her speech, Haley congratulated her opponent, former U.S. President Trump, but did not express support.

"There's a good chance that Trump will be the Republican nominee for president at the Republican National Convention in July," she said. "Now it's up to Trump to win the votes of those in our party and outside the party who don't support him. Yes, I hope he can do it."

US media reported that after Haley withdrew from the presidential race, Trump had no other major competitor in the Republican Party.

It's unclear whether Trump will have enough support within the divided Republican Party.

Haley is the first woman in U.S. history to win a Republican primary for president.

While competing for the Republican presidential nomination, she won two primary victories in Washington, D.C., and Vermont.

The primaries are the first stage of the U.S. presidential election.

After the primaries, the Democratic and Republican parties will hold their respective national conventions to formally nominate presidential and vice presidential candidates.

This year’s U.S. election voting day is November 5.
