Most of the victims of the Israeli aggression on Gaza are women and children (Reuters)

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said - on Thursday evening - that about 60,000 pregnant Palestinian women in the Strip are suffering from malnutrition and dehydration as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip.

The Ministry said in a statement - on the eve of International Women's Day - that women constitute 49 percent of the Gaza Strip's population, most of whom are of childbearing age, and that about 5,000 women give birth every month in harsh, unsafe, and unsanitary conditions as a result of bombing and displacement.

On February 19, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned that the sharp rise in malnutrition among children and pregnant and lactating women in the Gaza Strip poses a serious threat to their health, especially with the continuing devastating war.

Because of the war and Israeli restrictions, the population of Gaza, especially the Gaza and northern governorates, is on the verge of famine, with severe scarcity of supplies of food, water, medicine, and fuel, in addition to a health crisis resulting from the spread of epidemics and the weakness or absence of medical services in most cases.

In the statement, the Gaza Ministry of Health called on the United Nations to work to immediately stop the Israeli aggression and genocide against Palestinian women and their families. It also called on women’s institutions around the world to stand by Palestinian women and mobilize energies to demand an end to the Israeli aggression.

The Ministry also called on international institutions to support the living, health, psychological and social needs of Palestinian women, especially in the Gaza Strip.

On the eve of International Women's Day, the Ministry announced the killing of 9,000 Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip since October 7.

Since last October 7, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left tens of thousands of civilian casualties, an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, and massive destruction of infrastructure and property, according to Palestinian and UN data, which led to Tel Aviv being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide. .
