France: facing opposition parties, Macron assumes his position on Ukraine

Emmanuel Macron received, Thursday March 7 at the Élysée, all the leaders of the opposition parties.

And everyone came out of this meeting of just over 2.5 hours unanimous: we must support Ukraine and provide weapons to its army.

But they are against France becoming a co-belligerent.

The French president confirms his change of tone towards Russia and toughens his speech.

The only one to have found this meeting useful: Olivier Faure, first secretary of the Socialist Party, who explained that he had requested this meeting from Emmanuel Macron.

Not much came of it according to him, because the opinions are totally opposed, but dialogue is still necessary.

Jordan Bardella, for his part, said he explained to the president that it was “

irresponsible

The president of the far-right party also emerged very worried from this meeting.

He deplores the head of state's lack of diplomacy and the lack of discussion with Russia.

The meeting was interrupted by the meeting between Emmanuel Macron and Maia Sandu, president of Moldova.

On the agenda: Ukraine again, obviously.

Next step for party leaders: the debate in Parliament, Tuesday March 12, with a vote on this bilateral security agreement between France and Ukraine.
