Halevy: We went through difficult events and failed to protect civilians (Reuters - Archive)

Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy announced on Thursday the start of internal investigations starting from 2018 to October 10.

Halevy stated that “the purpose of the investigation is to learn,” explaining this by saying, “We went through difficult events, and we failed to protect civilians,” referring to the Al-Aqsa flood battle.

The Israeli army chief of staff added that “if we do not courageously analyze what we did, we will find it difficult to confront” Israeli citizens.

In this context, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed that the head of the Israeli Internal Security Service (Shin Bet), Ronen Bar, had directed, for the first time since the Al-Aqsa flood and the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, to open an internal investigation into the attack of last October 7.

After the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) launched Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, Israeli officials acknowledged responsibility for what happened, describing it as a failure and a security failure, with the exception of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
