A man

murdered two women this Wednesday

with a

sharp weapon inside

a university in the city of

Guadalajara

, in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, local authorities report.

The state prosecutor, Luis Joaquín Méndez, has assured that a man of approximately 20 years old murdered two women from the administrative area of ​​the Technological University of Guadalajara (UTEG) with a knife, without the motive being known so far.

"We have two dead women and a man who was also injured," he said.

"There is no reason, there is no apparent motive, this subject seems to arrive and attack without any apparent reason or cause, the aggression is direct against the first people he sees," he adds.

The official said the attacker was detained by police.

He added that a knife and a small ax

were found at the scene

with which the man broke several windows at the university.

Méndez also said that the attacker's relationship with a woman who was found dead in a hotel the same day is being investigated.

The university later issued

a statement condemning the violence against its employees.

"UTEG University Center emphatically condemns what happened today and extends our most sincere condolences to the families of our collaborators," he said.

The attack occurs two days after massive marches are held in the country on the occasion of International Women's Day, in which sexist violence in the country is denounced.

Mexico faces serious problems of gender violence.

In 2023 alone, 852 femicides were committed, according to official figures.
