Four months and 23 days is the time the National Electoral Council has to organize the 2024 presidential election. During this time, it will be necessary to control the automatic voting system, train the citizens in charge of the polling stations, invite the election observers, and above all, update the electoral lists.

And for many, it’s mission impossible.

Maria Corina Machado, the leader of the opposition, reacted to this announcement: “

Strength is on our side,”

she said.

They are more and more weakened, we are stronger.

They can announce all the electoral agendas they want, no matter how absurd, but the voters are the ones who have them.

This is not the first time that an election date has been given late in the country.

Already in 2018, the election was announced just over three months in advance.

An election won by Nicolas Maduro, widely criticized by the international community for its lack of transparency.

Emmanuel Macron called it illegitimate.

Today in 2024, according to the government's detractors, this date of July 28 is a way of preventing the opposition from organizing.

And in particular to designate a successor to Maria Corina Machado, who is prohibited from running.
