The United Nations expert on human rights and international solidarity, Cecilia Payet, said that what is currently happening in the Gaza Strip represents a crime against humanity, stressing Israel’s failure to comply with the decisions of the International Court of Justice.

She stressed in an interview with Al Jazeera that airdrops of aid would not solve the existing problem, and that "the practical solution lies in an immediate ceasefire and preventing any weapons from reaching both sides of the conflict."

She added, "All parties must make a lot of efforts to stop the humanitarian catastrophe that is occurring because there is no justification for killing children and women in Gaza," noting that the reality "proves that those involved in the peace process do not truly represent women and children."

She concluded by saying that it was Israel that cut off the arrival of aid and food to civilians, even though it was their right, and that it - Israel - is responsible for the arrival of all aid sent by the United Nations without delay.

But she stressed that enforcing this responsibility “is extremely difficult because Israel has not shown commitment to the decisions of the International Court of Justice, which prompted South Africa to ask the court to issue new measures.”

It is noteworthy that the United States of America has begun to escalate its rhetoric against Israel regarding the entry of aid, and is preparing to present a resolution before the Security Council that includes a temporary ceasefire with the release of all prisoners and the entry of more aid immediately upon the approval of the parties concerned.
