49 candidates competing for the mayor of Istanbul (Anatolia)

Turkey's Supreme Election Authority has published the final lists of candidates for the local general elections to be held on March 31 on its website.

According to the list, Istanbul has become the largest city in which candidates will compete for the position of mayor of the major city, as their number reached 49 candidates, including 22 from political parties and 27 independents.

As for the mayor of Gaziantep, 29 candidates will compete for the presidency, including 26 from political parties and 3 independents.

For the mayorship of the city of Malatya, 28 candidates will compete, including 23 from political parties and 5 independents.

While 24 candidates will participate in the Ankara mayoral elections, 19 from political parties and 5 independents.

27 candidates will compete in the Izmir mayoral elections, 21 from political parties and 6 independents.

In the Hilal municipality in the city of Uludere, Şırnak Province, and the Akincılar municipality in the city of Kahta, in the Adıyaman Province, there was only one candidate from the Justice and Development Party for each, while there was only one candidate from the Republican People’s Party for membership in the municipal council of the municipality of Golcıl in the city of Tokat, Almos Province. .

On the other hand, there are no independent candidates for the mayors of Erzurum, Menisa and Şanlıurfa.

The final lists of political parties and independent candidates eligible to participate in the local general elections, expected to be held on March 31, were announced by the election councils at the governorate and district levels.
