The day before, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, reported to the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, about the situation at the front and discussed “changes in the most important directions.”

Prior to this, Syrsky said that the blame for the failures of the Ukrainian army on the eastern front lay with the brigade commanders, and announced dismissals in connection with this.
