The Organization of Islamic Cooperation held its emergency meeting at the level of foreign ministers at its headquarters in Jeddah (Anatolia)

An emergency meeting of foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation countries in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, called for an immediate and unconditional cessation of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, and the opening of humanitarian corridors to bring aid into the Strip without obstacles.

In his speech before the meeting, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed the need to take immediate action regarding Gaza, even if it was unilateral.

A closing statement of the meeting, in its special session to discuss the Israeli aggression against Gaza, called for providing humanitarian, medical and relief aid, providing water and electricity, and opening humanitarian corridors to deliver urgent aid to the Gaza Strip without obstacles and in an adequate manner.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation statement affirmed its categorical rejection and response by all means to any attempt to displace, expel, or forcefully transfer the Palestinian people from their land.

The statement also called on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to quickly complete the investigation into the war crimes committed by officials of the Israeli colonial occupation government against the defenseless Palestinian people.

The ministers stressed the importance of bringing criminals to international justice, thanking South Africa, Comoros, Djibouti, Bolivia, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Chile and Mexico for referring the situation in the State of Palestine to the International Criminal Court.

The organization also called on member states that are members of the International Criminal Court to refer crimes committed in Palestine to the court as soon as possible.

Immediate action

For his part, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stressed the need to take immediate action regarding the Gaza Strip and said, "There is a great aspiration for us to take immediate action, even if it is unilateral, regarding Gaza."

He added, "The siege imposed on Gaza must now be broken, and we all know that Israel uses humanitarian aid as a weapon of war."

Fidan explained that the Gaza Contact Group is an innovative initiative that breaks the vicious circle of condemnations only.

The group was formed by a decision from the Arab Islamic Summit in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on November 11, to discuss ways to stop the Israeli war on Gaza.

He went on to say, "Thanks to the group's efforts, the overwhelming majority of the international community today supports an immediate ceasefire and a two-state solution," stressing the need for this matter not to lead to indifference and disdain.

The Turkish Foreign Minister pointed out that the "extremist and racist government in Israel" is once again trying to deceive the world.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left tens of thousands of civilians martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, according to Palestinian and UN data, which led to Israel appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing genocide.
