  • Language The independence movement tried to boycott the immersion report through an Italian MEP: "More Spanish is not the solution"

Separatism does not give up and is trying to modify the EU report on immersion that demands equity between Spanish and Catalan in Catalan schools and which will be put to a vote on March 19.

The Catalan independentists and their allies in Brussels have presented almost 400 amendments to the document - to which EL MUNDO has had access - to erase all traces of community support for the 25% ruling and to try to get the European Parliament to pressure the Constitutional Court ( TC) in order to position itself against the application of the ruling that ends linguistic immersion.

Among the amendments that make up the separatist strategy, one by the Italian MEP

Maria Angela Danzi

, of the Five Star Movement, stands out, urging the European Parliament to include in its final report the following claim: «She hopes that the Constitutional Court will soon adopt a position on this matter [the 25% ruling] that fully respects the cultural and linguistic diversity of the region and the right of the regional legislative authority to regulate the issue.

Danzi, who is acting as an ally of the Catalan secessionist formations, wants the European institution to recommend to the TC to allow the Generalitat to maintain the immersion and to do so at a crucial moment, when the court of guarantees decides on the legality of the law and the decree approved by the Catalan Government to prevent the application of the ruling on 25% Spanish.

Danzi also calls for deleting the part of the document in which the report and its recommendations are urged to be sent "to the Spanish Constitutional Court pending a ruling."

If maintained as currently drafted, the text represents a clear endorsement of the 25% ruling.

And that is also what the secessionists want to change.

The Junts MEP and partner of Carles Puigdemont,

Toni Comín

, demands that the central recommendation of the report be deleted, which states that the 25% sentence "is not currently applied by the Autonomous Administration" and it is "remembered that the state of Law is one of the cornerstones of the Union.

The same request is made by the representative of the BNG,

Ana Miranda

.

The Danish

Margrete Auken

, registered in the green group, the same one in which ERC is part, demands that the European Parliament express "its concern about the fact that students could be seriously harmed by the possible dismantling of the immersion model "linguistics in Catalonia, in terms of reducing the possibilities of having the necessary learning opportunities and linguistic skills."
