“Annulment of the agreement will allow us to accomplish at least three tasks: it will eliminate the possibility of mining aquatic biological resources of an unfriendly country in our territorial waters, deprive this country of the possibility of covert reconnaissance, and also reduce the presence of the British fleet in the Arctic,” the document says.

On February 21, the State Duma adopted a law denouncing the 1956 agreement that allowed sailors from Great Britain to fish in the Russian zone of the Barents Sea.

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin expressed the opinion that Russia’s denunciation of the agreement with Great Britain on fishing in the Russian Barents Sea zone “will return to the country the fish” that the “unscrupulous British” previously ate.
