For several days, discussions have been held between the United Nations and the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Finally, the authorities of Port Sudan

agreed to allow humanitarian aid

from Chad to Darfur to pass through the town of Tina.

For 15 days, convoys destined for this region had in fact been

blocked at the Chadian border

, because the authorities of Port Sudan suspect Chad of letting weapons pass for Rapid Support Forces (FSR), which are fighting the army Sudanese.

Humanitarian aid convoys from

South Sudan

will therefore be able to reach White Nile State through the town of Renk, and flights will be organized to the airports of

El Fasher,

Kadugli and El-Obeid, in Darfur and Kordoffan, explains our correspondent in Nairobi,

Gaëlle Laleix

The United Nations humanitarian coordinator on site ensures that contacts have already been made with the local authorities and the parties involved, in order to allow the convoys to get back on the road as quickly as possible.

18 million Sudanese people in acute food insecurity

There is no time to lose

According to the World Food Program (WFP), the conflict which has ravaged Sudan for almost eleven months risks generating “

the

largest hunger crisis in the world

”, it warned this Wednesday March 6.

According to the WFP, today, less than 5% of Sudanese can afford a full meal a day, and 18 million are acutely food insecure, including 5 million who have reached the last level before famine.

The fighting – which has left

threatens millions of lives, the peace and stability of an entire region
