Fundación Instituto San José Hospital, San Nicolás pavilion, intended for psychiatric patients and managed by the San Juan de Dios religious foundation in Madrid.

It was 5:30 p.m. on February 15 when Juan Alfonso RP,

a 52-year-old nursing assistant

in charge of caring for the mentally ill, approached a patient who was in an area restricted to those admitted.

Without saying a word,

the inmate placed his hands on the health worker's shoulders and kicked him hard in the testicles

, causing him to lose consciousness.

Almost three hours later,

Juan had died

.

"He was hit by a

problematic and much younger

patient ," sources close to the deceased explained to GRAN MADRID.

"During the morning shift," say sources from the Workers' Commissions, "this same patient

was already overexcited

and nothing had been done."

A case reported by the union to the labor inspection arguing that "there is a work origin in all this since

the aggression occurs in the workplace

," according to Manuel Barroso, head of Occupational Health at CCOO.

"In 2023 it was assessed that the workers at this center

were exposed to physical violence and that it was necessary to implement preventive measures

, such as having a sufficient number of workers to provide mechanical restraint [reduce the patient using keys] if necessary," he adds. .

"However," she continues, "

there was a lack of staff

."

Work circumstances to which, according to the victim's environment, his colleagues and the complaining union, is added that, as a result of the attack, "

Juan fell to the ground sideways, fainted and remained pale

for a few seconds until he regained consciousness." ".

When he regained consciousness, he was taken to the center's infirmary although, despite working in a hospital, he was never inspected by a doctor.

"

They should have taken him to a doctor, to an examination, to an emergency service

and he would not have died," explains Barroso.

Instead, Juan was given a flyer to go to the mutual insurance company on his own.

"He was not feeling well, but after an hour and a half in the infirmary, it seems that he had improved a little and

she left to leave the car at his house before going to the mutual insurance company

," the union explains.

The nursing assistant

managed to get his vehicle to a parking lot near his home

.

There "

he died at the wheel and his body was discovered inside the car by a neighbor

," explain sources close to him, who are awaiting the

results of the autopsy

to know the exact causes of this worker's death.
