If nuclear weapons from the United States appear in northern Europe, the security of the states receiving these weapons will not only not be strengthened, but will clearly suffer, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

According to her, other countries on the continent will be forced to take this into account.

“You don’t have to be a military strategist to understand: such objects will pose a source of direct threat and, naturally, will inevitably be included in the list of legitimate targets determined by the scenario of a direct military clash between our country and NATO,” said a representative of the foreign policy department.

She added that Moscow understands that this is exactly what the United States and its satellites are pushing towards.

In October 2023, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that NATO military bases and strike weapons could appear on the territory of Finland and Sweden after they join the alliance.
