European elections: who is Rima Hassan, the activist whose presence on the LFI list is controversial

A name that stands out more than the others.

This Wednesday afternoon, France Insoumise unveiled its list for the European elections next June.

The very notable presence of activist Rima Hassan did not fail to provoke a reaction.

This pro-Palestinian activist became known for her controversial positions surrounding the situation in the Middle East. 

Aged 31, this lawyer, president of the Action Palestine France association, was born in Syria and grew up in a refugee camp until she was 9, before moving to Paris and obtaining French nationality in 2010. After the Hamas attacks on October 7 on Israeli soil, she made more than ambiguous comments about the Palestinian terrorist movement. 

She assured that Israel did not have a right of defense

Questioned by the media

last November, she considered that it was “true” that Hamas was carrying out legitimate action.

She also assured that the State of Israel did not have a right of defense and that a two-state solution was impossible.

Nothing to put off rebellious France, whose national coordinator, Manuel Bompard, rejects accusations of complacency towards Hamas.

“If every time you make false accusations about someone, it leads us to abandon the presence of that person on our list, we would have difficulty completing our list.”

Rebellious France can only hope that this choice pays off on June 9.
