The European Union trumpets that it is the world's largest market in terms of users, and hopes its regulation on digital markets will have a ripple effect outside the EU.

Europe wants to bring order to the digital world, which it described as a Wild West without a sheriff.

In addition to Amazon, Google and Apple, the settlement concerns Microsoft, ByteDance for TikTok, and Meta for WhatsApp or Facebook.

The European Commission considers them to be “

 gatekeepers

 ”.

They are the ones who, according to her, control companies' access to the majority of users, thanks to their size or their solidity.

Search engines will no longer be able to highlight their own results, such as GoogleShopping.

The AppStore or PlayStore stores on phones will no longer be able to limit eligible applications.

The phones must allow the use of all payment systems and not just that of the brand such as ApplePay.

A multitude of rules intended to allow users to no longer be captive consumers.

Rules which will allow the European Commission to impose fines of up to 10 or even 20% of global turnover, and even to impose the dismantling of a company.
