The Civil Guard has arrested

16 employees of companies that operate the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport

for allegedly stealing effects whose value exceeds 120,000 euros from travelers' checked luggage, among which bags, jewelry, clothing and electronic devices prevail.

Another 22 workers have been investigated by agents of the Fiscal and Border Unit that operates at the airport within the framework of Operation Union, carried out jointly with Aena and the airlines, the Madrid Command reported this Wednesday. of the armed institute.

According to sources from the force, those arrested are those who would have committed the most valuable thefts, while those investigated supposedly carried out smaller thefts.

The agents have managed to recover items of various kinds, from

a large number of high-end bags and clothing, to electronic devices

- tablets, watches, mobile phones or wireless headphones -, cameras, a violin, a Bible or cash .

The victims of the robberies, whose belongings were returned, were also very varied: the camera belonged to a US Army non-commissioned officer, who was located in Puerto Rico;

a smart watch was owned by a company executive;

and the violin of a young musician who had to give a recital in London.

Likewise,

a large quantity of sausages, ham, cheese, cans of preserves and other foods

that have been donated to canteens were seized as their legitimate owners could not be located.
