Oxfam spokeswoman Fatouma Shida said that Israel is using starvation in the Gaza Strip as a weapon of war, and considered dropping humanitarian aid by air not a solution.

During an interview with Al Jazeera, Sheda described the situation in the Gaza Strip as a humanitarian catastrophe, stressing the necessity of a permanent ceasefire as the Palestinian people there are suffering from starvation.

She pointed out that the situation in Gaza is dangerous for 90% of civilians who suffer from food insecurity, pointing out that targeting humanitarian aid convoys is an ongoing Israeli pattern, the latest of which is the flour massacre on Al-Rashid Street.

She stressed that Oxfam considers airdropping aid not a solution, even if it is a last resort, noting that humanitarian teams were working in the Gaza Strip, and called for the necessity of opening the crossings and bringing aid into Rafah (south) as well as northern Gaza.

The Oxfam spokeswoman said that it is impossible to understand the obstruction that is occurring in the ceasefire talks, and added, "We have seen the impact of increasing hostilities from the Israeli government and an imminent threat to invade Rafah."

She warned of the death of 16 children due to hunger and the suffering of 300,000 children from acute malnutrition, before concluding her speech by saying that the situation is catastrophic, and that a ceasefire is urgent to contain the threat of famine.

The Regional Director of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) had told Al Jazeera that 80% of the population of Gaza are classified as being in a state of disaster and famine due to hunger, and the entire population of Gaza is classified as being in an emergency state due to the low level of food security.
