“A criminal case has been initiated against the baby’s mother for malicious failure to fulfill parental responsibilities (156 of the Criminal Code of Russia),” the department said in a statement.

As the prosecutor's office found out, the 24-year-old woman grossly violated her responsibilities in raising her son, subjecting him to cruel treatment and not giving “the necessary food, clothing, place to sleep and rest, and was indifferent to his health.”

He also did not care about his treatment or hospitalization. 

“In addition, the investigator opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Art.

118 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing grievous bodily harm through negligence),” the statement adds.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, requested a report on the progress of the investigation of the criminal case brought against a resident of Udmurtia on charges of torturing her two-month-old children.
