US forces say they have carried out a strike against a surface-to-air missile belonging to the Iran-backed Houthis.

The rocket was about to take off from Yemen.

The US Central Command said on X that the Houthis had previously fired an anti-ship ballistic missile from Yemen towards the Red Sea.

No ships were damaged.

The destroyed missile threatened US aircraft in the region, said the responsible regional command of the US military, Centcom.

The Houthi militias have been attacking civilian ships since November.

They see themselves as part of the “Axis of Resistance,” which is directed against Israel and supported by Iran and which, in addition to Hamas, also includes the Shiite militia Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In response to the Houthi attacks, the US and British armed forces are attacking the militia.

Germany has sent the frigate “Hessen” to the region to support this operation.

It has already shot down two Houthi militia drones.

The EU has also launched a military operation to protect merchant shipping in the Red Sea.

The frigate “Hessen” will take part.
